Our focus in class has been on forming paragraphs and brainstorming what we know before we write. At this age, it is sometimes difficult for children to generate ideas about one topic. As you work with your child at home on sentence-writing, ask them to list ideas on ONE subject of their choosing. This will help them stay focused as they begin writing their paragraph.
Also, please mark your calendar for Friday, May 25th as our last day of school. Children will not need to bring a backpack or a water bottle that day. All materials given out that day will be in a labeled bag for them to take home. Parents are invited to share this last day with us for a short ceremony. Please remember that siblings are not allowed to attend. Our ceremony will begin at 11 am, but more details will be given in an upcoming flyer. Thank you for your support!
**Spelling this week will be using: List 16
Review Words: some come over are mother
**We are continuing to use the writing process in class:
Pre-Writing, Composing, Revising, Editing, and Publishing.
**’EXTENDED DAY’ will be studying “Ocean Life.”
If you have any sea shells or other ocean treasures at home, send them in with your child for show and tell!
**The May poem is My Turtle. It’s the last one; finish strong!! I will be assessing it by the end of next week if students are ready so it can be entered as a grade for 4th quarter report cards!
**Thank you to those who worked so diligently on reading logs! They were a great success!
**We are working very hard at school to keep the students focused academically until the very last day. Please encourage the same at home by keeping up a routine and reminding your ‘almost-first-grader’ that there are still 3 weeks left in Kindergarten. Let’s finish strong!
** In math, we are still focusing on addition and subtraction concepts. The students will be tested on these on our upcoming 4th Quarter Math Assessment. Please be sure you are practicing these math facts nightly, and students are paying close attention to the sign being used before they write an answer!
Thank you for your support!
Let's make this a great week!!!
